KMTX is no longer just the only official training center for Krav Maga in Texas by the International Krav Maga Federation. We've become so much more over the past two years, working to become a place for complete fitness training, fun, and self defense while also being a community of neighbors, friends, and families looking to help one another and support those that protect and care for us on a daily basis. We are proud supporters of the Police Departments, Fire Departments, and EMT's that work [...]
Third time is charmed...On my way to Crash camp again. An enormous thanks to my BEAUtiful wife Crystal for putting me on this path years ago. I don't think I would have survived otherwise. Thanks to Bart Brooks, Marcus Torgerson, Miki Torgerson, and Jean Michel Thomas Louvier for the training and allowing me to be part of an amazing team. Stay tuned for the daily recap of camp! Catch y'all on the flip side.
It's 4:57 a.m. I wake up three minutes before my alarm. I'm groggy but excited. My roommate Drew Goodwin is up as well. Alarm starts to go off, Toes by Zac Brown. I turn off my alarm and roll back over. We both attempt to get resettled and relax before we are supposed to be up. No luck. Drew decides to get up and go for a walk. No running today. Niether of us know what the test will be like. I lounge for another moment or two, grab a Frog Fuel, then start getting my bags and gear[...]
Last morning run. Maybe. I walk outside to see the stunning sight that I only see when I walk out of our living area. Tomorrow our test begins at eight o'clock and my trip here will be nearly concluded. So if I want to run it will be earlier. I prefer to warm up on my terms and my way. But man do I really like to sleep. Throw on the mask, beat feet, and jump in the sea. The warm water feels refreshing on our fatigued muscles. The morning crew didn't linger long. Back out of the water we get [...]
The last two days have been a whirlwind of training and bonding. Yesterday the first part of the day was spent exploring and training the Expert 2 level of curriculum. It was a great period of training that was a prime example of one solution for five problems. We tell you over and over again that we are more about principles for techniques than anything else..... If you don't believe us in class and don't believe this post then come to camp and see for yourself. It is awesome.
The second [...]
IKMF Crash Camp Day 2 Training: Just Plain Fun
Man I love this stuff.
The morning started out with nearly a dozen of us on the beach for our morning run. The distance is maybe three quarters of a mile total followed by a dip in the warm Medditerranean sea. According to Drew Goodwin, my roommate and Director of IKMF California, it's at least ten degrees warmer than Southern California. It was refreshing. Eating an a relatively traditional breakfast including a salad, toast with Nutella [...]
IKMF Crash Camp Day 1 Training: Check it Out!
The first day started off with an anxious energy. Expert level instructors from around the world who have been waiting to train in excess of 24 hours. When instructors travel, it's with a purpose. Down time doesn't make sense.
The warm up is a fun one. A follow the leader with a twist. It goes from one leading one to one leading four with everyone moving in multiple directions. With 20 people it's realitively easy. Now double it. Near mayhem. [...]
